AI Connectors Overview
Overview
Section HQ connects to the official enterprise API of each AI provider your organization uses (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot) and reads usage data. It normalizes this data into usage and AI Fitness views, which combined with your HRIS data, enables adoption and AI Fitness analytics broken down by department.
Please reach out to your Customer Success representative with any questions about the connectors below.
ChatGPT (OpenAI)
Section connects to OpenAI's Compliance API to read organization-wide ChatGPT usage. Because the Compliance API exposes per-message activity, this connector powers both usage analytics and proficiency scoring.
What Data Is Accessed
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Days active, conversation and message counts | Measure usage frequency and volume per user |
| Model used (including reasoning models) | Identify adoption of advanced model families |
| Custom GPT and agent authoring | Track who builds reusable GPTs and agents |
| Tool and file usage | Measure use of tools, connectors, and file uploads |
| User directory and email | Join activity to users and to HRIS records |
Requirements
ChatGPT Enterprise. You provide a Compliance API key and your Workspace ID, both generated in the ChatGPT Enterprise admin console. This is the only credential required for ChatGPT.
Copilot (Microsoft 365)
Section connects to the Microsoft Graph API to read Copilot usage across the Microsoft 365 suite.
What Data Is Accessed
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Copilot license assignment | Identify licensed users and unused licenses |
| Per-app activity across Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Loop, and Copilot Chat | Measure which apps Copilot is used in and how often |
| Last activity dates per app | Measure adoption and cross-app breadth by department |
An optional interaction permission can be enabled to read conversation-level detail for deeper proficiency signals. It is off by default and enabled only with your authorization.
Requirements
Any Microsoft 365 plan with Copilot licenses. Your IT administrator grants admin consent for the Graph API permissions (User.Read.All and Reports.Read.All) through a one-time Azure AD approval. The optional interaction permission (AiEnterpriseInteraction.Read.All) is granted separately.
Claude (Anthropic)
Section connects to two Anthropic APIs. Each one provides data the other does not, so both are required for complete analytics.
The Enterprise Analytics API provides organization-level activity and development metrics. The Compliance API provides per-conversation activity and custom project authoring. Together they power usage analytics, proficiency scoring, and Claude Code development metrics.
What Data Is Accessed
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Daily, weekly, and monthly active users, seat utilization, adoption rates | Measure organization-wide adoption |
| Per-user conversation, message, project, artifact, and skill activity | Measure usage depth and proficiency |
| Reasoning (thinking) message activity | Identify use of extended-thinking model behavior |
| Claude Code development metrics (sessions, commits, pull requests, lines of code, tool acceptance) | Measure AI-assisted software development |
| Custom project authoring | Track who builds reusable Claude projects |
| User directory and email | Join activity to users and to HRIS records |
Requirements
Claude Enterprise. You provide an Enterprise Analytics API key and a Compliance API key, both generated by your Enterprise Primary Owner. The Analytics API is available only on the Enterprise plan.
Google Gemini (Research Preview)
The Gemini connector is in research preview. Section connects to Google's Admin SDK Reports API to read Gemini usage across Workspace applications. This connector provides adoption and breadth analytics, not the deeper proficiency signals available from ChatGPT and Claude.
What Data Is Accessed
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Days active and user identity | Measure usage frequency per user |
| App breadth across Workspace apps (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Meet, and others) | Measure where Gemini is used and how broadly |
| Feature usage and action types | Measure which Gemini features are used |
Requirements
Google Workspace Enterprise or Education. Your Workspace administrator provides a service account with domain-wide delegation.
HRIS (Finch)
Section connects to your HRIS through Finch to read employee directory and org-structure data. This is the enrichment layer that breaks every metric above down by department, team, and role. Finch supports 200+ HRIS providers including Workday, ADP, BambooHR, Gusto, and Rippling.
Full setup steps, supported providers, and FAQs are in the HRIS Integration Guide.
What Data Is Accessed
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Employee directory and work email | Join HRIS records to platform activity |
| Department and manager | Power department-level analytics |
| Job title and employment type | Segment analytics by role and level |
What Section Does Not Access
Section does not access payroll, compensation, social security numbers, or any sensitive fields beyond those listed above.
Requirements
Any HRIS in the Finch network. Setup is a short authorization through the Finch Connect widget. No IT configuration is required ahead of time.
