Improved
Setup Guides 1.2.2
about 1 month ago by Steve Moncada
We updated the SCIM Connection Guide to make reporting attributes more reliable to set up, especially with Microsoft Entra ID.
- Recommended attributes. We now recommend three reporting attributes:
department, employeeNumber, and a new custom attribute,manager_employee_id. - Manager is now sent as an employee ID. Send each person's manager as the manager's employee ID in
manager_employee_id, rather than through the standard SCIMmanagerattribute. Some identity providers, including Microsoft Entra ID, send the standard attribute as an internal link that Section cannot match to a person. - Start with one test user. Provision a single user with every reporting attribute filled in before assigning everyone else. Section uses that user to finish your attribute setup and confirm the values are arriving.
- Plain text values. Every reporting attribute should be sent as plain text. Location is now a custom
locationattribute, such as an office, city, or country. - Adding attributes after your first sync. A small edit to each affected user in your identity provider brings their newly enabled attributes into Section.
- Step-by-step mapping instructions for both Okta and Microsoft Entra ID.
Existing connections keep working as they are. If you would like to start sending the new attributes, contact your Customer Success representative.
